Aims of the Food Technology / Textiles Technology Department

The following aims are intended for all students of all ages and levels of ability

• To be introduced to and work through the Design Process
• To show a selection of ways of collecting information to help with designing
• To work with a Design Brief and Design Specification
• To present a variety of annotated design ideas
• To Show how selected design ideas can be developed / refined
• To present a final design proposal together with a comprehensive order of making / step by step plan
• To carry out practical work to a high standard
• To evaluate the outcomes and to take users / tasters views into account in future planning of work
• To extend skills and to build confidence for future work

Expectations in Food Technology and Textile Technology lessons

As a Department we expect Students to:-

• respect all members of staff
• allow teachers to teach all students in the lesson
• respect all equipment provided for learning to take place and the environment in which you work
• listen to instructions given
• treat other students in your class with respect
• listen to the point of view of others without interrupting
• carry out all work to a high standard
• treat your workbook with respect

Students can expect Teachers to:-

• teach, assist, help and encourage students to aim towards achieving your target level (KS3) and / or minimum target grade (KS4)
• treat all students with respect and with equality
• follow the ’Each Child Matters Agenda’

Requirements for lessons

Students should:-

• ensure that they are fully equipped for all lessons; whether it is a Practical or a Theory lesson
• provide ingredients for Food Technology lessons or fabric if required for Textile Technology lessons
• have their school diary available at all times
• have pens, pencils, ruler and coloured pencils for both Food and Textiles lessons when required
• be prepared to learn
